Projects - The Effectiveness of Student Welfare Professional Development

Timeframe: 2000-2002

Source: ARC Strategic Partnerships with Industry: Research and Training Scheme (SPIRTS)

In partnership with the Victorian Catholic Education Office, the Centre is evaluating the effectiveness of teacher professional development in student welfare, as a strategic approach to whole school change, health promotion and suicide prevention. The strategy is focused around teacher professional development. Teams of teachers from Catholic schools in Victoria are undertaking the Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Student Welfare) course (at the Faculty of Education, The University of Melbourne), in order to gain intensive professional development. The impact of this professional development is being documented by the Youth Research Centre through 1999-2002. The research is funded by a three- year ARC (Strategic Partnerships with Industry: Research and Training Scheme grant). It will create innovative ways of measuring the effectiveness of teacher professional development.
