Study in Student Wellbeing
Programs in the Student Wellbeing area seek to build the capacity of teachers (pre-service teachers and experienced teachers / school leaders) to address the emotional and social health needs of students. An underlying premise of programs in this area is that, as student achievement and student wellbeing are inextricably linked, schools bear responsibility for the promotion of student wellbeing. Recent developments have led to the requirement that schools adopt models of student wellbeing, pastoral care and mental health promotion that have preventative and developmental emphases and that involve creative links with other sectors to support young people. The programs in this area acknowledge that teachers and school leaders need specific continuing education to enhance their confidence and competence to deal with social and emotional factors that affect student learning and to facilitate appropriate structures, processes and arrangements in school organisation to promote student wellbeing.
