Travel policy for students studying away
If you travel away from Melbourne for a purpose related to your research degree, such as fieldwork, you must fill out the following ‘Application to Study Away Form’. When you return, you need to complete the ‘Advice of Return from Leave or Study Away’.
1. ‘Application to Study Away’
This form details the dates of and the reason for travelling. The form must be accompanied by a completed ‘Guideline Form for Off Campus Travel and Work Policy’ which downloads with the ‘Application To Study Away’ form. This form should be completed in conjunction with, and authorised by, your supervisor.
If a potential hazardous or unique risk is identified either while travelling or in the activities you will be engaged in whilst away then you must also complete and submit a 2 Variable Risk Assessment form or 3 Variable Risk Assessment form. These risk assessment forms should also be completed in conjunction with, and authorised by, your supervisor.
Applications to study overseas/away will NOT be processed unless the relevant risk assessment forms are completed and attached.

Because these forms are administered by both the Melbourne School of Graduate Research and the Melbourne Graduate School of Education, please see below which form you should fill out. They are distinguished according to degree and scholarship status.
