Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Title: English language preparation for postgraduate study: the case of FELC

Chief Investigator: Dr Kieran O'Loughlin

Funded by: Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Summary: This project aims to evaluate the Faculty of Education English Language Course (FELC), offered as an alternative means of fulfilling the Faculty of Education's English language entry requirements for international applicants whose IELTS scores fall just below the standard required for postgraduate study. By examining the FELC program in terms of curriculum, assessment, student experiences and student achievements the project will evaluate its effectiveness as preparation for successful postgraduate study. The findings will have important implications for the future use of FELC and similar 'bridging' programs by the Faculty of Education, the University more broadly and other English-medium universities, both locally and internationally.
