Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Title: Outside-school-hours-care and children’s early school adjustment

Chief Investigator: Associate Professor Kay Margetts

Funded by: 2007 Faculty of Education Competitive Grant

Project Summary: This project will investigate the use and influence of outside-school-hours-care (OSHC) on children’s development and early school adjustment. This mixed-method study will focus on influences of discrete types and experiences of OSHC and personal and family factors on children’s social, behavioural and academic adjustment and progress in school. The resulting evidence-based theoretical gains about school adjustment and OSHC including the identification of vulnerable populations of children, will build the capacity of education sectors to address these issues in the early years of schooling and will be at the forefront of international scholarly work in the field.
