Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Title: An ethnogaphic study of one school's Year 9 curriculum reform

Chief Investigator: Professor Lyn Yates

Funded by: Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Summary: This project will investigate what happens when a high school introduces a new year 9 program. The broadly ethnographic study will focus on what types of learning and orientations are being developed and what identity demands and future directions the new program produces for teachers and students. The CI's earlier longitudinal study of this school would enable comparative insights into student engagement and social culture changes. Project outcomes will be useful to the school, to the research literature on year 9 programs and on school cultures and inequalities, and will provide a foundation for a larger grant application.
