Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Title: Investigating effects on learners and teachers of interactive whiteboard use

Chief Investigator: Dr Tony Jones

Funded by: 2007 Faculty of Education Competitive Grant

Project Summary: Most educators believe they can utilise ICT to enhance classroom learning and to refine students’ communication and thinking skills through working and planning collaboratively to solve problems. However research reports indicate that in practice this is rare. This study explores the perceptions teachers and learners have about classroom use of interactive whiteboards, as well as investigating pedagogical strategies that harness ICT features for the enhancement of knowledge construction and understanding. This research offers a new way of looking at classroom use of ICT through the use of a framework that examines the relative contributions of teacher, students and technology, and will contribute to knowledge and understanding of educational practice involving ICT.
