Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Title: Stability of student perceptions of quality of teaching in Education

Chief Investigator: Dr Esther Care

Funded by: Faculty of Education Competitive Grants

Project Summary: Consistency of student views concerning quality of teaching over a semester's enrolment and some months later, will be examined. Faculty of Education students enrolled in selected subjects will be invited to participate in the study. A major criticism of the Quality of Teaching (QOT) evaluation approach lies in the fact that data obtained cannot be used to enhance student learning outcomes for the particular students supplying the data (Bastick,2001). Also, it is not known whether end of semester attitudes are maintained some months later. An additional aspect of this study will involve the deconstruction of Quality of Teaching survey items in order to identify the construct validity of those items.
