Melbourne Early Career Researcher Grants

Project Title: University Staff Understanding of International Students and Intercultural Teaching and Learning

Chief Investigator: Dr Erlenawati Sawir

Funded by: 2007 Early Career Researcher Grant Scheme

Project Summary: The proposed research aims to investigate the perspectives of staff on the increased number of international students and how this has impacted on their teaching practice.  The project is significant because it seeks to fill a gap in research on international education, which has mainly focused on examining the experience of international students. By investigating the experiences, perceptions and practices of academic staff from different disciplines, this study will enhance understanding of intercultural teaching and learning.  It will enable the modification of staff training programs and the development of programs that address the specific needs of academics within the disciplines in higher education.
