Members of EESI share an interest in education, identity, citizenship and the changing social world, and in questions about the relationship between equity, identities and educational knowledge.
In order to address these issues, the Program brings together researchers with expertise across key areas and sectors, including; schooling, early childhood, youth, vocational learning, creative arts, health and wellbeing.
A core research question for education is what kinds of people and what kinds of values and capacities to act in the world are created by educational experiences and practices. What patterns of opportunity or discrimination are being set up, what kind of society is being set in motion – and what kinds of practices would produce better and more equitable directions?
These questions have taken on new urgency in the 21st century and the changing global, cultural and economic context. This is particularly the case in relation to the identity resources needed to be a global citizen and lifelong learner, and in relation to the formation of social values in national contexts of significant cultural diversity.
