Melbourne Graduate School of Education International Students

Information for University of Melbourne Education Students

There are a wide range of options for students from the Melbourne Graduate School of Education to undertake an Exchange or Study Abroad program.

Undergraduate Programs

Students in the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education and Bachelor of Education (Primary) can undertake a one or two semester exchange, usually in their second or third year of study.

Most Education exchanges provide opportunities to undertake a combination of theory and practical experience in a local school/early childhood setting. Sweden, Finland and Canada are among the most popular destinations for Education students.

A list of Partner Institutions is available from the Melbourne Global Mobility website, as well as information on applications procedures, dates and important deadlines. You can also download the Education Abroad flyer or speak to a course advisor at the Education Student Centre.

Master of Teaching Students

The Master of Teaching has been designed flexibly, enabling students across Secondary, Primary and Early Childhood streams to complete the final 50 points of their program overseas*.

Opportunities exist to undertake a Research** or Coursework program at a partner institution, or to undertake an Induction program at an overseas school or early childhood centre. Master of Teaching students interested in undertaking their final 50 points abroad are encouraged to download the Education Abroad flyer, and to speak with the Exchange Adviser well in advance of their planned study abroad.

*Exceptions to this are students undertaking the Internship (Secondary and Early Childhood), or the Early Years option.

**Research options are generally limited due to supervisor agreements.

Higher Degrees, Coursework and Research Students

Opportunities for students in the Master of Education and specialist Masters Programs are generally limited given the short duration of the program. Students are encouraged to discuss opportunities for exchange with Partner Institutions and beyond that may offer programs that directly relate to your area of interest.
