Michelle Hutchison
Doctor of Education
MEd; PGDES (LD); GD Special Ed; DTeach(Primary); MACE.
"My extensive postgraduate study path began in 1994. Since then I have successfully completed the Graduate Diploma in Special Education, Postgraduate Diploma in Educational Studies (Learning Disabilities), and Master of Education - all at The University of Melbourne! In addition, I am currently progressing towards completion of a professional doctorate in education (Doctor of Education).
The knowledge I have gained through extensive postgraduate study has complimented my professional career development. I am now a highly regarded leader in the educational field and have extensive experience as a leading teacher in several outstanding schools in Melbourne. I also own and run my own education business, Hutchison Education.
My interest was sustained in education at the University of Melbourne as a consequence of learning from world leading experts who were informative and inspiring, which ultimately encouraged me to continue studying. My thirst for more knowledge is what eventually led me to embark on research into 'the development of teachers knowledge in phonological processing' as part of my Doctor of Education degree. My research is designed to reveal the precise details of linguistically correct teaching techniques that will best help our students learn reading and spelling effectively.
There is a practical emphasis on learning difficulties, cognitive profiles and learning styles in the university classroom that strongly relate to my professional practice in the education sector. I am now able to influence school policy on behaviour, intervention, gifted and special education. My professional experience as a classroom teacher coupled with my special education expertise has helped me develop practical strategies and approaches to teaching - that work!"
