Practicum

Entrance Requirements

A person may be eligible for admission to the Master of Educational Psychology if the individual has:

  • Completed at a standard satisfactory to the School a degree with honours in Psychology from a university or tertiary institute approved by the School.
or
  • Completed an equivalent qualification in Psychology at a level satisfactory to the School and is eligible for Associate Membership of the Australian Psychological Society.
Applicants may be required to attend an interview to determine the applicant's ability to succeed in the course.

A person may be eligible for admission to the Doctor of Educational Psychology if the individual has:
  • Completed at a standard satisfactory to the School a degree with honours at H2A level or above in Psychology from a university or tertiary institution approved by the School, or equivalent
or is
  • Currently enrolled in the Master of Educational Psychology degree and has successfully completed the first year full-time or first and second year part-time with a H2A level or above in the following three subjects: Research Methods; Counselling Skills for Educational Psychologists; and Working with Groups: The Individual in the Social Context

A person may be eligible for admission to the Master of Educational Psychology/PhD* if the individual has:

  • Completed at a standard satisfactory to the School a degree with honours at H1 level or above in Psychology from a university or tertiary institution approved by the School, or equivalent

Entry is also subject to supervision and resource availability.

The personal suitability of applicants for professional training, as assessed by referee's reports and/or personal interviews, will also be taken into account.

Each candidate, when applying for admission to the course, and at the beginning of each year after admission to the course, must obtain the approval of the School for his or her proposed studies. Any change to the approved studies must be authorised by the School.

The Psychologist's Registration Board and The Australian Psychological Society are of central importance to the educational psychologist at the outset of supervised practice and upon course completion.
