Early Learning Centre and Boorai - The Children's Art Gallery

What's in the Big Box?

This exhibition involves approximately 150 children aged 4-8 years in an experiential and imaginative arts-based investigation that speculates on the development of the new Children's Museum within the Melbourne Museum.

What's in the Big Box?

The participating children were asked to draw/paint their direct and imagined responses to the new Museum. Some children were also asked to contribute a personal 'precious' object that they believed would be suitable for a museum collection. The children responded positively to this idea which suggests that even the very young child can appreciate and understand the personal, social and cultural value of artifacts.

Through the exhibition of these artworks and objects the views of children were acknowledged and represented, making an important contribution to the development and promise of the new Children's Museum.
