Melbourne Graduate School of Education Early Learning Centre (ELC) and Boorai - The Children's Art Gallery

In Brief

The ELC is a specialised research and demonstration kindergarten attached to the Melbourne Graduate School of Education at The University of Melbourne. It operates for eight continuous hours per day, Monday to Friday, for 48 weeks per year. It services 89 three to five year old children daily with approximately 160 children enrolled from The University and the surrounding community. The ELC is fully accredited and exceeds all federal and state regulations.

The Early Learning Centre operates: 8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday from 23 Jan – 21 Dec 2012.

The children's learning program is designed and implemented by degree qualified early childhood teachers, and specialist classes in dance, drama, visual art and music are offered by artists/teachers. Our mission is to provide an exemplary educational experience in a humanistic and environmentally mindful setting.

2012 Teaching & Learning focus: Oceans

In 2012 the ELC children and educators will be exploring oceans, inspired by T.S. Eliot's words:
"The sea has many voices..."

And in the words of the children:
"The sea is born from the mother wave."

New Resource "Beyond the Canopy" available now...

Multimedia Teaching & Learning Resource, Seminar Series and BLOG.
Beyond the Canopy is an overview of a year-long project based on the International Year of Forests. It introduces the Reggio Emilia method, capturing the collaborative learning journey of preschool children and their teachers from the point of project provocation to its conclusion. This DVD follows the children's study of forests and underwater forests. It includes Teaching Notes designed to guide thinking and questioning about a range of pedagogical ideas, which support the development of knowledge and understandings that underpin high quality practice.
