Welcome to Education, Equity and Social Change (including Youth Research Centre and the Centre for Equity and Innovation in Early Childhood Education) The cluster’s interests coalesce around practical and theoretical interests in knowledge, identities, inequalities and the changing ways in which these are expressed and shaped in educational curricula and impact on children’s and young people’s well-being. It has an emerging focus on curriculum and social change. Cluster members are committed to research that contributes to policy and practice and that aims to enhance the learning experiences of children and young people in the diverse settings in which they participate, including schools. The cluster consists of two of the School’s established research centres two sub-groups and newly emerging areas of research and teaching concentration. The Centre for Equity and Innovation in Early Childhood (CEIEC) and the Youth Research Centre (YRC) have an established track record of research and teaching within the School, which focuses on the active participation of children and young people in their learning. The focus on children and young people’s wellbeing is supported through the work of the Student Welfare Unit, and the Health and Physical Education team. The cluster also includes an emerging curriculum focus concerned with knowledge, social identities and the changing world, led by the recently appointed Foundation Professor of Curriculum. The cluster supports a strong postgraduate program, including over 40 research students and seven coursework Masters programs, many of which are inter-disciplinary and cross-faculty. The cluster also makes a substantial contribution to teaching in undergraduate programs (for example, the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education) and pre-service programs (Bachelor of Education). |
