Placement Opportunities
Rural, Interstate, and Overseas Placements
There are opportunities for student teachers are able to undertake a placement in country Victoria, interstate or overseas. It is unlikely that more than one such placement would be permitted during a student's course because of assessment requirements. Normally students cannot undertake final "ready to teach" placement out of the metropolitan area. Student Teachers should seek the advice of the relevant Professional Practice Coordinator as early as possible as non-metropolitan placements are only appropriate for particular placements.

Experiencing Education for Indigenous Communities
The School has a firm commitment to the presentation of an all-inclusive curriculum in its teacher education programs. This extends to offering the opportunity for selected students intending to be primary teachers to undertake a professional education experience (practicum) in an aboriginal community on the Pitjantjatjara lands of Central Australia. This experience is planned in collaboration with the Anangu Education Services which is part of the Department of Education, South Australia. Currently this experience is available only to Bachelor of Education students.
Students spend three to four weeks placed in one of the small schools scattered on the lands. They stay in teachers' accommodation and are encouraged to participate in most community activities. It is a challenging environment but one that can be very enjoyable and educationally invaluable.
