Tony Mackay is a Senior Research Associate at the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Life-long Learning at The University of Melbourne and a Manager of Certain Knowledge. His work within the Faculty of Education has included the design and implementation of research and development programs in the areas of leadership and school improvement, involving leadership teams from the government and non-government sectors. He is currently working with a Melbourne University team developing a major national executive leadership development program Leading Australia’s Schools and working in conjunction with the Hay Group (Australia). During 2005 he co-ordinated a Victorian team of specialist educators on the design and facilitation of a leadership development program for school leaders in Hong Kong.

Tony is a founding member of the Governing Council of the National College for School Leadership in England and has been chair of the Council’s Think Tank. As a consultant advisor to the Department for Education and Skill’s Innovation Unit, England, and as an OECD Senior Consultant for the Schooling for Tomorrow project he is currently working on a number of ‘next practice’ projects on school leadership and school improvement and reform. Tony is a Board Member of the International Congress for School Effectiveness and Improvement.

Tony is Director of the Melbourne based Centre for Strategic Education, a centre promoting, supporting and influencing the interests of the teaching profession. Tony is a fellow of the Australian College of Educators; the Australian Council for Educational Leaders and the Victorian Division of the Institute of Public Administration, Australia.
