Research
Janet has recently completed her PhD thesis examining the role of comprehension during the early stages of literacy learning.
In 2006-2007 Janet worked on research project to trial Reading Recovery in the Kimberley WA. The successful implementation of Reading Recovery in the Kimberley allows a small number of Indigenous students access to this literacy intervention program.
Working with Professor Joseph Lo Bianco, she has completed a research project for the Catholic Education Office, Victoria. The study explored the effectiveness of Reading Recovery, a early intervention program for at risk learners.
Her Master of Education thesis, Professional development as work-based collective learning: A study of curriculum implementation and change, monitored the process of change in schools involved in the Early Literacy Research Project and identified factors which supported teachers as they endeavored to make significant and sustainable changes to their literacy teaching programs.
