Role
I am the coordinator of the subject Social and Professional Contexts a compulsory subject within the Master of Teaching. The teaching approach relies heavily on a social justice framework and the issue of inclusion and exclusion.
I also coordinate an elective subject with Liz Freeman entitled "Promoting Student Wellbeing". The aim of this elective is to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to work effectively with students and other teachers in schools.
My research interest is the Life Patterns program. The research is aimed at exploring how young people make the transition from school to further study and work.
Associations
I am a member of the Master of Teaching committee, now called a working party of the APC.

Teaching Areas
I am the coordinator of the subject Social and Professional Contexts (460542 &460511) a compulsory subject within the Master of Teaching. Currently there are 250 students and 10 seminar groups. In 2009 the course will combine both primary and secondary students. The subject encourages students to engage with the social context of the students they will be teaching. The teaching approach relies heavily on a social justice framework and the issue of inclusion and exclusion.
I also coordinate an elective subject with Liz Freeman entitled "Promoting student wellbeing" (460660). This elective runs in second semester and is also an integral part of the Master of Teaching. The aim of this elective is to provide students with the skills and knowledge they now need to work effectively with students and teachers in schools.
Research
My speciality area is within the Life Patterns program. I have been involved for 12 years as a researcher within this program. My role has varied within this time but in general as a writer of reports (with the team), as a researcher who interviews participants, designs surveys, presents findings at conferences and assists in the process of ensuring continued funding.
I am currently interested in the connection between these young people and their families. Our focus has tended to be on which course they did and what jobs they got, that is the transition process and its "success" or otherwise. However one of the key themes that kept coming up was ignored... the importance of the young person's connection to their family.
This is what I am researching now.
