Other Information
Bernadette commenced her working life as a nurse and has been employed predominantly in the public health sector as a clinical nurse specialist. An interest in patient education led to educational studies that saw her qualify first as a secondary teacher then as a psychologist. An ongoing fascination with psychometric issues has led to her current position within the Assessment Research Centre at the University of Melbourne. Bernadette is an Australian Postgraduate Award Industry scholarship holder undertaking her PhD. Her studies are focused on the construction of assessment materials that will aid teachers to target educational intervention to the specific learning needs of their students. Bernadette is hopeful that the application of her research will result in enhanced learning outcomes for students. Since 2007, Bernadette has been working on the development and validation of instrumentation that can track social capacity across a diverse range of students with additional learning needs.
