Role
Veronica Volkoff is the Academic Coordinator of the Teach for Australia Project at the Melbourne Graduate School of Education (MGSE). Prior to commencing this role in September 2009, Veronica worked for almost five years as a Senior Research Fellow of the Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning of the MGSE (2005-2009). She is also a member of the teaching team for the Master of Education Policy (International)program that was awarded the Australian Learning and Teaching Council citation for outstanding contributions to student learning in 2009. Prior to commencing work at the University of Melbourne, Veronica was the Director of the Post Compulsory Education and Training (PCET) Research Centre within the School of Education at RMIT University.
During her 13 years at RMIT she completed a range of national research projects mainly focussed on equity in vocational education and training (VET) in Australia. These studies included analysis of VET policy, access, participation, outputs and outcomes in relation to VET learners, in particular, members of designated equity target groups. Veronica also developed strong knowledge of the ACE sector in Victoria through recent and current research projects, her previous role as Chair of the Northern Metropolitan Regional Council of ACFE (1996-2000) and her membership of the ACFE Board (1998-2003). While at RMIT Veronica designed, taught and coordinated postgraduate adult and vocational teacher training programs and a Master of Education by Coursework. Her international development work for AusAID, UNESCO and Chinese and Malaysian governments (1997-2005) included VET sector policy and structural reform and VET capacity building projects designed to improve the education and training opportunities and outcomes for people in South Africa, the Indian province of Sikkim and in Chongqing, China.
While at CPELL, Veronica’s research work has included:
- A study to provide guidance for improving careers education for young people aged 19 and under, a project commissioned by the The Joint Policy Unit,
Department of Innovation, Industry and Development and Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Victoria
- Review of Accountabilities and Funding of Community Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) , a project commissioned by the Youth Transitions Division, Office for Policy Research and Innovation of the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development, Victoria
- Analysis of Factors Contributing to Apprenticeship and Traineeship Completion, a qualitative research project to investigate the reasons for differences in completion rates, commissioned by the Office of Training and Tertiary Education of the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, Victoria.
- The Springboard Project, an Adult Community Education (ACE) practitioner research demonstration project, commissioned by the Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board, Victoria.
- Setting the scene - investigating learning outcomes with a view to the future, a project of investigative background research to objectively inform and advise research priority setting of the Adult Community and Further Education Board, commissioned by the Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board, Victoria.
- Research into the Impact of TAFE Inclusiveness Strategies, a component of the project - A Well-Skilled Future: Tailoring VET to the Emerging Labour Market, a 2 year research project being undertaken jointly by the University of Melbourne Centre for Post-compulsory Education and Lifelong Learning (CPELL) and the National Institute for Labour Studies (NILS), Adelaide for the National Centre for Vocational Education Research.
- Circles of Professional Research Practice: A community studies approach to researching strategic issues in ACE, for Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board, Victoria (Round 1: July 2005 - May 2006 and Round 2: May 2006 – December 2006).
- A Community Studies Approach to Researching Strategic Issues in Adult Community Education (ACE), a three year longitudinal study of learners in the Adult Community Education sector in Victoria commissioned by the Adult Community and Further Education (ACFE) Board, Victoria
