Equity Adventures

Teaching & Learning for Equity in Early childhood CD-ROM

This exciting teaching & learning resource from the CEIEC will familiarise users with key approaches to equity issues in early childhood services enable users to explore what these approaches mean in theory and in practice in early childhood settings encourage users to critically reflect upon their roles as teachers in promoting equity in early childhood settings develop users' capacity to design and critically evaluate teaching and learning resources that promote equity in the curriculum for young children.

It uses Quicktime VR 'photos', research case studies, video clips of interviews and group discussions with early childhood teachers about their approaches to equity issues in the early childhood curriculum to involve users in 'virtual' experiences of teaching and learning for equity in the early childhood

Cultural Diversity Resource (CDR)

The CDR is a website and associated CD Rom which offer users virtual resource rooms, user scenarios and video clips to bring to life how cultural diversity can be understood and positively enacted in the early childhood curriculum.

Key features

  • Multi-media Case Studies of how specific early childhood staff make cultural diversity practices relevant to their specific setting and how they negotiate issues and dilemmas that arise.
  • A Games Room to test and build teachersâ diversity knowledge base by enabling them to critically reflect on how cultural diversity touches young childrenâs lives and on cultural diversity in Australia.
  • An Interactive Virtual Resource Room that challenges teachers to create culturally diverse learning environments.
  • A Resource Library containing a diversity glossary and website links.
  • A Project Bank database housing teachersâ classroom projects
  • An Imagebank Resource (called INSPIRE) that provides new ideas and strategies to help teachers critically reflect on how they provide for equity in young children's teaching and learning.
  • Cultural Diversity Practicum Tasks that challenge pre-service teachers to reflect on how they can enact cultural diversity principles in different settings.
