Conference Themes and Aims
Conference themes
- Children’s rights in diverse contexts
- Concepts of children’s citizenship in diverse contexts and settings
- Children and participation in diverse settings
- Early childhood and children’s participation, protection and provision rights
We especially invite proposal that explore the following questions:
- What difference does the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child make to children in diverse contexts?
- What does children’s citizenship look like in different contexts and settings?
- How do we make a difference through children’s participation in decision-making?
- How do issues of diversity, difference and identity intersect with children’s rights to participation, protection and provision in early childhood?
- What issues has research raised around the challenges, tensions in enacting young children’s rights in diverse contexts?
The CEIEC delegates - your audience
The conference is an annual international conference attended by academics, activists, professionals and policy makers.
In 2008 the conference attracted more than 125 delegates from countries including Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Pakistan, Thailand, United Kingdom and the United States of America.
Some delegates return annually, some will be attending for the first time.
Review of Proposals
The CEIEC conference committee will review all proposals submitted to the conference for presentation.
Notes:
- All papers will be reviewed by at least 2 CEIEC conference committee or CEIEC staff members. These reviews will be blind reviews.
- Where a conflict of interest is registered, reviews will be conducted by external reviewers who will be selected by the CEIEC conference convenor.
- A third reviewer may be sought if there is not consensus about the initial review.
- The CEIEC conference convenor will make the final decision about acceptance of papers.
- The CEIEC conference convenor reserves the right to invite paper presentations and these will not be subject to the review process.
- The CEIEC conference committee values contributions from first time presenters and practitioner researchers and it will support strongly proposals from these groups by offering detailed and helpful feedback on proposals from these groups of proposes.
Review procedure:
- Papers received
- Papers organised for distribution to reviewers with the review form and criteria for acceptance
- Each paper to be reviewed by two reviewers against the criteria for acceptance
- Reviewers complete the review form and forward to the conference convenor
- Decision reached
- Proposers notified of decision
Criteria for acceptance:
- Clear presentation of ideas
- Sound rationale for the proposal
- Related to conference themes
- Follows submission format
- Includes abstract
Submitting a Proposal
All intending presenters are required to:
- Submit a presentation proposal of between 300 - 500 words
- Submit 50 word abstract for the conference program
- Refer to CEIEC review process for more details
- Download and complete proposal form

Alternative presentation formats: Special Interest Groups and Action Learning Circles
Special Interest Groups
We are happy to provide space on the program for Special Interest Groups (SIG) to meet. Let us know if you would like to create a space for a SIG. We can advertise the SIG on the conference website and in the conference program.
Action Learning Circles
Generate learning and sharing within and beyond the conference by hosting an Action Learning Circle (ALC) (download further information).
Registration for presenters
Presenters are expected to pay full registration as soon as their proposals are accepted (download a Conference Registration Form).
Abstracts will be withdrawn from the conference program if registration and payment are not received by the due date.
