Note: this subject requires successful completion of ‘Knowledge, learning and culture’

Childhood, youth and popular culture

This subject explores how children and young people construct and reconstruct their sense of self against the backdrop of popular culture, which is such a crucial arena for both social control and for exploring the possibility of social transformation

Ethics, gender and the family

Towards the end of the 20th century, feminist thinkers challenged the view that the family is a private domain. Examine the growing tradition of using alternative perspectives, such as gender and childhood studies, to understand the family as a site of contestation over the rights and responsibilities of its members.
