Summary
The Assessment Research Centre (ARC) was asked by the Victorian Department of Education (DE&T) to evaluate the trialling of interactive whiteboards (IWB) in schools. Schools designed their own evaluation projects, which allowed them to adapt the technology to their specific teaching and learning goals. The project included four secondary schools, three Special Education schools and fifteen secondary schools from rural and metropolitan districts. All projects were linked by a shared evaluation methodology and project advisory team from the ARC.
In 2005, each participating school appointed a project team leader responsible for monitoring progress of the IWB project in their school. Evaluators from the ARC have worked with project leaders to confirm project goals and develop a prioritised set of needs, strategies and performance indicators. Baseline data on technology use was collected in schools, and implementation plans for new technology were developed by schools supported by the evaluation team.
