An Evaluation of the Enhanced Native-speaking English Teacher Scheme in Secondary Schools

Summary
This project involves a multifaceted approach to the study of the ENET Scheme. A primary aim of the evaluation is to provide a foundation for the invigoration of the Scheme, with particular attention paid to the role of the NET in secondary schools and the development of a working model of optimal NET deployment. The evaluation will examine the contribution of the ENET Scheme in Secondary Schools to English language education, its proposed relationship to the new senior secondary curriculum, and a consideration of future trends and directions for the Scheme.
An integrated series of focus groups, school visits, surveys and document analyses have been undertaken in order to identify implications and recommendations for the Scheme.
The objectives of the Enhanced NET Scheme in Secondary Schools are to:
- enrich the English language learning environment in schools
- enhance the teaching and learning of English with linguistically and culturally authentic materials and resources
- build up teaching expertise through school-based professional development and collaboration between NETs and other English Panel Members (EPMs)
