Research and consultancy services

The Melbourne Graduate School of Education through the Melbourne Education Research Institute at the University of Melbourne is internationally recognised for its excellent research and is dependent on the breadth and quality of this research to maintain its position as the premier education School in Australia.

While we continue to experience success in attracting funding from major competitive grants, linkages with companies, governments and research organisations have become increasingly important.

Industry partnerships are actively sought with international aid agencies, government, public sector agencies and the private sector. The Institute has gained major consultancies and research projects in a wide range of contexts including research delivered at a national and international level in countries such as India, New Zealand, Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Singapore, China and Vietnam.

Our Partnerships

Some of the projects conducted with our industry partners:

  • Funded by the World Bank and the Primary Education Program, Ha Noi to develop professional standards for primary teachers in Vietnam and then develop guidelines for their implementation.
  • The Asian Education Foundation commissioned the Institute's Assessment Research Centre to develop a series of instruments to assess the knowledge, attitudes related to Asian culture and to establish benchmarks at a national level for those studies.
  • The Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) provided funding to test feasibility of a standard referencing approach to grading of assessment in VET in Schools for purposes of university selection.
  • The Department of Family and Community Services provided funding to develop a Quality Assurance Measurement tool and implementation model for the Family Day Care quality assurance system.
  • The NSW Department of Education and Training commissioned Assessment Research Centre to analyse data for a New South Wales Bilingual/Biliteracy Project.
  • a survey of beliefs and understanding about an Early Childhood Curriculum Framework for the Australian Early Childhood Association Inc.
  • an evaluation of the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) 2004 Pathway Development for the Victorian Qualifications Authority

Industry Advisory Group

To maintain and expand our close industry links, the Institute will introduce an Industry Advisory Group made up of senior figures in the education community, industry leaders and government representatives.
