Recent and Forthcoming Team Events
The 2007 meeting of the LPS Research Community was held in Budapest over one and a half days: August 27 and 28. The meeting was attended by representatives from Research Groups in Australia, China, the Czech Republic, Germany, Japan, Norway, Singapore, Sweden, and the United Kingdom. In addition, Niels Brouwer from the Netherlands attended most of Day One as an observer.
A major focus of the meeting was a series of presentations by team members on the multiple theories that have informed their analysis of the LPS data.
In 2008, the LPS Team Meeting will be held in Monterrey, Mexico, on July 14 and 15, immediately following the ICME11 conference. At this meeting the videoPortal data networking system will be officially launched.
Funding has been obtained from the Australian Research Council to support the continuation of the LPS Annual Team Conference and Retreat, which will be held in Melbourne from December 3 to 12, 2008.
Snapshots from Monterrey
Hi Everyone,
I recently returned from a visit to Monterrey in Mexico – the site of the ICME11 conference in July. Preparations for the conference are going well and the city offers a lot for visitors. The weather in July will be extremely hot, so it was reassuring to see that every presentation will occur in an air-conditioned venue – including three gigantic marquees (each capable of holding 1200 people – one to be used for registration and displays), each of which is also air-conditioned. The hotel accommodation is very good. Public transport from the hotel to the conference site at the university is direct and simple. The university campus is very attractive (see snapshots below), there are interesting galleries and museums (including a steel museum, see photo), and an evening stroll in the city centre provides a chance to watch the locals shopping and just relaxing. Children and families were everywhere and everyone was very friendly. Looking forward to catching up with everyone in July.
