Recent and current professional activities
Jarmila Novotná is Associate Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Education, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education.
Since 1992 she has fully focused in the research on problems from mathematical education. Main fields of her interest are: Analysis of students’ solving processes, Language factors in teaching mathematics, Activation processes in mathematics teaching, Training of mathematics teacher for profession, Transfer of research results into practice. Her research results are positively received both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 1998 she has been repeatedly invited to give plenary lectures on major international conferences. Since 1998 I have been the coordinator of Czech participation in several European projects of various sections of the Socrates programme (for more details see the List of Publications). In 2002 I became the reviewer of projects for Czech Socrates National Agency.

Since 1989 she has been developing cooperation of Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Education with universities abroad in several ways: She is the chairperson of the Organizing Committees and the member of International Programme Committees of Symposium on Elementary Maths Teaching (SEMT 91, 93, 95, 97, 99, 01, 03, 05), European Conference on Research in Mathematics Education (ERCME 97, CERME 2 in 2001), which were organized by Department of Mathematics and Mathematical Education, Charles University in Prague, Faculty of Education. She is a member of International Programme Committee ICMI Study Conference 15 - Teacher Education, which is being prepared presently. She is a member of ICME 10 Survey Team The professional development of mathematics teachers, a member of the International Multilingual Mathematics Group. In 2003 she was elected a member of the International Committee of the International group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education.
